As the temperatures go down, it’s a good opportunity to revise some vocabulary to talk about the cold weather.
frost n. = thin coat of ice (frosty adj.)
We are having many frosty mornings this winter.
sleet = a mixture of rain and snow (sleety adj.)
The sleet made driving conditions very dangerous.
slush = dirty, melting snow
By lunchtime the snow had turned into slush.
blizzard = snowstorm
The road was closed because of the blizzard.
And the following verbs are used with snow:
settle = cuajar
It has been snowing all morning, but the temperature is too high for it to settle.
thaw = derretirse
The warm spring sunshine is making the snow thaw.
