It’s cold!

As the temperatures go down, it’s a good opportunity to revise some vocabulary to talk about the cold weather.

frost n. = thin coat of ice (frosty adj.)

We are having many frosty mornings this winter.

sleet = a mixture of rain and snow (sleety adj.)

The sleet made driving conditions very dangerous.

slush = dirty, melting snow

By lunchtime the snow had turned into slush.

blizzard = snowstorm

The  road was closed because of the blizzard.

And the following verbs are used with snow:

settle = cuajar

It has been snowing all morning, but the temperature is too high for it to settle.

thaw = derretirse

The warm spring sunshine is making the snow thaw.
